In order to solve the problem of nuclear waste disposal in Italy's nuclear power plants, the Italian government approved the domestic disposal plan of sogin nuclear waste on January 5, local time, and will build 67 nuclear waste storage and burial sites in seven regions of Italy in the future.

According to reports, on April 26, 1986, after the accident of nuclear reactor rupture at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in pripyadi, Ukraine, Italy held a referendum on the application of nuclear energy in 1987, and finally decided by an overwhelming vote that it would no longer develop and gradually abolish nuclear power plants.

According to the referendum decision, the Italian government shut down only four nuclear power plants one after another, and set up the Italian nuclear power equipment management company and the Italian renewable power resources management company (grtn), which are directly led by the Ministry of economic development, to purchase nuclear power plants, dismantle nuclear power plant facilities and dispose of nuclear waste.

For a long time, the Italian nuclear equipment management company has been responsible for maintaining the shut down nuclear facilities and protecting nuclear waste from leakage. Because the nuclear waste has been unable to be completely disposed of, it is difficult to dismantle the facilities of the nuclear power plant.

Previously, the Italian nuclear equipment management company usually sent the nuclear waste to foreign professional institutions for treatment. In 2010, Italy passed legislation to approve the construction of a national radioactive material landfill and stopped the export of nuclear waste.

According to the official reply of the Italian National Bureau of new technology, energy and environment and the Ministry of land, marine resources and environmental protection, in the future, the Italian nuclear energy equipment management company will establish 67 nuclear waste storage and burial sites in seven regions, namely Piedmont, Tuscany, Lazio, Priya, baslikata, Sardinia and Sicily.

According to the report, Italy's nuclear waste treatment is to first put the nuclear waste into metal containers of special materials, and then seal them with special concrete, and bury them in landfills that meet certain geological conditions. The design service life of the scheme is 350 years.

According to the plan of the Italian nuclear energy equipment management company, the nuclear waste landfill to be built will cover an area of 150 hectares, of which 110 hectares will be used to bury nuclear waste and 40 hectares will be used to establish supporting management facilities. The company will monitor the buried nuclear waste in real time for at least 300 years to ensure there is no radioactive contamination.
