According to the "2020 annual report on global ecological environment remote sensing monitoring" released by the Ministry of science and technology of Xinhua news agency, in the past 20 years, the per capita green space area of global cities has increased significantly, from 23.14 square meters in 2000 to 40.47 square meters in 2020, an increase of about 75%.
Urban green space is an important part of urban ecosystem. It has the functions of adjusting climate, purifying air, conserving water, reducing noise and beautifying environment. It also plays the role of landscape culture and residents' leisure.
The report points out that the per capita urban green space has a global imbalance. The per capita green space area of high-income countries is 79.97 square meters, which belongs to high-level green space allocation. Among them, the per capita green space area of the United States and Canada is 157.36 square meters and 121.96 square meters respectively.
The urban green space area per capita in middle-income countries is 29.30 square meters, and the difference between countries is very obvious. The per capita green space area of cities in low-income countries is only 19.69 square meters, which belongs to low-level green space allocation, and the construction of urban green infrastructure is relatively insufficient.
As an important part of urban green space system, urban park plays an important role in maintaining urban ecosystem services and improving human settlements. According to the report, some countries in North America, Europe and Asia have larger green space in urban parks. In recent 20 years, with the improvement of urban landscaping level, the per capita park green space area has increased significantly. In 2020, the per capita green space area of parks in world cities will be 18.32 square meters.
