In order to attract young people, e-cigarette manufacturers have launched creamy and fruity flavors. However, a report published in the British Journal of scientific report recently pointed out that no matter whether the electronic cigarette contains nicotine or not, some fragrant electronic cigarettes will damage the respiratory tract and aggravate respiratory diseases such as asthma.

Researchers at the University of Vermont and other institutions in the United States asked mice to inhale electronic cigarette smoke of various flavors twice a day for a period of time, and then exposed mice to the air with allergens, and carried out a control study with mice that did not inhale electronic cigarettes. The results showed that different flavors had different effects on respiratory tract. For example, the taste of black licorice would aggravate respiratory tract inflammation, the taste of cinnamon would increase respiratory tract sensitivity, and the taste of Banana Pudding would lead to more serious tissue scars. The researchers did not specifically analyze which component of the fragrance additive caused the damage. However, previous studies have confirmed that some cream and cinnamon additives in e-cigarettes are toxic, while mint flavor additives are carcinogenic.

The researchers suggest that people with respiratory diseases, such as asthma, should be particularly alert to e-cigarettes, and that health authorities should also take health risks into account and regulate e-cigarettes.
